EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an information processing therapy that helps individuals cope with trauma, addictions, and phobias.

During this treatment, you will be asked to focus  a specific thought, image, emotion, or sensation while simultaneously watching the therapist's finger or baton move in front of your eyes. You’ll be asked  to recognize what comes up for you  when thinking of an image and then asked  to let it go while doing bilateral stimulation.

Think of it like being on a train-an emotion or a thought may come up and you will simply let it pass as though you were looking out the window of the moving train.

If you feel you’re ready to begin your mental health journey, the first step is to
contact Foundation Counseling Center by phone at (256)-497-1790 or online to discuss the type of therapy (individual, family, or group) you are seeking.

Originally discovered in the late 1980s by Francine Shapiro, EMDR was developed to help with the treatment of PTSD.
